At STM SFI
STM SFI is the sprung floor installation arm of STM Studio Supplies. We supply and install the full build-up: subfloor preparation, sprung substructure, timber or Weathertex surface, and the vinyl or finish on top. One team is responsible for the finished floor.
We work on new studio fit-outs, refurbishments of existing spaces, split batten systems for uneven or out-of-level substrates, and stage floors for theatres and halls. Where a space only needs a surface, we supply and lay dance vinyl. Where an event only needs a floor for a season, we hire it.
Product specifications, installation method statements and fire test reports are available on request for specifiers, architects and building certifiers.

FAQ
A sprung floor is a build-up that sits between the substrate and the surface you dance on, absorbing impact so the load is taken by the floor rather than the dancer's joints. If a room is used for dance, tap, contemporary or regular jumping work, it is generally specified over a solid substrate. For pilates, barre and low-impact use, a lighter build-up or a vinyl overlay may be enough. Tell us how the room will be used and we will advise.
Often, yes. It depends on the condition and level of what is already there. Uneven or out-of-level substrates can be corrected with a split batten system rather than being demolished. The quote form asks about your existing floor for exactly this reason.
Yes. Every system can be quoted supply only for your own builder or contractor to install, or supply and install by our team. Installation details and method statements are provided either way.
Purchased vinyl is laid permanently or semi-permanently as part of your floor. Hire vinyl (often called tarkett) is supplied for a defined period such as a season, tour, eisteddfod or one-off production, then returned. Choose Dance vinyl hire as your project type and we will quote the hire rate and delivery.

It depends on the size of the room, the system specified, the condition of the substrate and site access. We give you an indicative programme with your quote so you can plan around class schedules, term dates or a production calendar.
